Day-To-Day Worship: Thanksgiving

Day-To-Day Worship: Thanksgiving
November 27, 2014

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name." Psalm 100:4

I love Thanksgiving.
More than the food and company, I love the reminder that comes with the holiday. That giving thanks to God should be the first prayer, the first words, the first action every day. In Psalm 100:4 it says to ENTER with thanksgiving.

How many times are our prayers a "to-do" list for God? And while we often are asking for really good things, we're still asking instead of giving.

So, today as I read the different scriptures coming at me from texts, Facebook, etc. about thanksgiving, I am reminded to reposition myself. I am reminded to "make thankfulness your sacrifice to God" (Psalm 50:14) because "giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors" God (Psalm 50:23).

It is amazing the freedom and contentment that we have when we remember to give thanks. More than ever, we need to be thankful for the blessings God has given (especially as we head into Black Friday and this crazy Christmas season).

I pray that your Thanksgiving is filled with thanksgiving. That you would experience the joy of this holiday by pausing to acknowledge all that you have.

I pray that the spirit of this day carries on to tomorrow, and the day after, and every day that you have after that. Because every day is a gift. A gift filled with many gifts.

With that, I wish you a very joyful Thanksgiving. Today and every day.

"Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods." - Psalm 95:2-3
