If you've been a part of the Christian faith for more than 2 minutes, you know how easily we can get lost in all that we need to DO for God. Faith certainly requires action and as children of God we have great responsibilities in the Kingdom. Yet, our culture seems to add a measure of "performance-mentality" to that. Our theology might say that we're saved by grace, but our actions say that if we just work hard enough we can earn God's love and approval. Yikes!

In our busy world there is an increasing and urgent need to learn how to be quiet before God. Let me be the first to admit that I am terrible at this. Give me 5 seconds of silence and I'll get antsy and begin making a list in my head of all that I need to accomplish.

God is speaking, though, and he desperately wants us to hear. After all, he truly is a loving father who enjoys spending time with his children. This has taken me a while (30 years) to understand. Thankfully, God has been faithful to me. He is so patient. So kind. He really is a good father.

This song, Be Still, is a favorite of mine from Bethel. It is a gentle reminder that rest takes practice. And if we can learn to be quiet before God, we will hear him. And he has so much to say to us.

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!" Ps 103:1
