Colossians 3:16

"Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God." -Colossians 3:16 NASB

"Richly dwell within you". Wow.

How are you doing with that?

I certainly have a long way to go.

I had the chance to meet with one of the pastors at my church recently -a man I look up to and respect greatly. And throughout our conversation his language was woven with scripture. I could tell he spent a lot of time in the presence of God. The word of Christ was rich in his heart. It was inspiring.

I desire that. I read the Bible every day (thanks YouVersion), but I can't say that I am allowing the word to "dwell". Definitely not "richly". I am too distracted. And I know I'm not the only one. Our world is too busy. I'm too busy.

It won't be easy, but this year I am committed to fighting for my time with Jesus. To allow for the scriptures to come alive in my heart. To rest in the shadow of the almighty God.

I believe that once we get the first part of this, the rest of it will come somewhat naturally. And trying to teach and admonish one another without allowing the word to dwell is simply exhausting. Our best ministry to others comes out of an overflow and abundance of allowing Jesus to minister to us.

Too often we want to skip ahead. But, we have to get the first part if we're to get the rest of it.

One of my biggest challenges is to rest in God. To allow Him to speak. To let His word dwell within me.

So, this is my focus this year. Let the word dwell. Let Jesus dwell within me. So that all that I do is in Christ.
